In The Cross
Hi folks - here is a test recording of the hymn In The Cross that I just did in my dining room. It’s a slowed down version of the original (396 in RH if you’re interested) and gives you an idea of the “feel” of how the album sounds in my head. Get in touch if you want to lay claim to recording any vocals for the album version of this song, or if you could contribute some instrumental takes. Much love, A. x
ps - you’ll hear that my vocals are pretty dodgy on this take. Thought I’d leave it that way to encourage you again that you don’t need to be perfect every time - that’s what this whole thing is about!
Well then everybody, the Redemption Hymnal project is up and running. Thank you so much to everyone who has already volunteered to be a part of this and I can’t wait to spend time with each and every one of you. If you haven’t yet but want to get involved then it is not too late at all, get in touch!
Over the coming weeks and months myself and my friend Fionn Watts will be recording an album of old hymns and spiritual songs to share in the love and joy that singing and worshipping together brings. We will also be filming a documentary as we go! We will be joining not only with each other in community, but will all those who have gone before us in lifting their voices and instruments in praise. We are excited to discover what talent lies dormant, and the album and documentary will seek to have a “parlour” feel - meaning we want to capture what music means to people behind closed doors. You know, the hymns and songs you sing while you’re washing the dishes, walking the dog, in the bath. [NB bath-time will not be filmed]
I wont write too much at this time, but in the next few days there will be posts on this website of all the songs I propose to record and some more info about how this is all going to work. As the project grows, this site will also show you photos, film snippets and musical works in progress as I want us to share each step of the way.
Whilst I hope I know how to record a good album, I’m a hopeless beginner at this website stuff, but I’ll be enlisting some help to ensure that this site becomes a forum to which you all can contribute as well as keep up to date with how our project is going. I’ll be in contact with you all soon - blessings until then, and keep in mind this instruction, from my gran’s old Redemption Hymnal front page - the thing that got me into this project in the very first place:
"Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." [Ephesians 5: 18-19]
